JOB CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Employee – Nonsupervisory

REPORTS TO: Sales Manager

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: Application Engineer Intern fills a vital role within the organization by contributing equipment knowledge that bridges the gap between Sales and Engineering.  The incumbent will learn to maintain customer relationships, negotiate with vendors, create detailed equipment design quotes, and make customer site visits if needed.

The Internship is primarily aimed at technical students able to work at least 16 hours per week.  Students do not have to be engineered but must have mechanical ability.  A candidate should have practical, hands-on experience, be self-motivated and able to work with little oversight.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Learn to Design equipment “line layout” concepts that meet customer requirements.
  2. Gather & qualify the information for a quote.
  3. Communicate with vendors (supporting equipment etc.)
  4. Prepare proposals and quotes with input from engineering and sales.
  5. Develop project budgets for partial or complete systems.
  6. Effectively communicate with customers and sales during quote / sales process.
  7. Maintain customer information and status in the Prophet CRM.
  8. Visit customer sites as needed (infrequent) to better understand their needs.
  9. Read and create detailed technical drawings.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND TRAITS:

  • Understanding of Drafting process.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal & written.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Solid Works and assembly modeling.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged sitting and computer terminal use
  • Minimal lifting of parts and supplies

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work generally performed in an office environment
  • At times working with automated and semi-automated industrial machines
